new solo work “invisible threads” at PACT on 22 October
thrilled to announce this show which has been in the works for some time.
at the start of 2026 i commenced a masters of music performance by research at the sydney conservatorium, and this piece captures the findings of my practice-based project thus far. i’ve had about four months of intensive practice and improvisation sessions with sul ponticello and scordatura in just, equal, and microtonal tunings, in an effort to create prominent interference beats between various partial tones, a la radigue, lucier, niblock et al. in many ways it builds on my last show SUMMONING, but to a much finer level of precision.
i feel like this project has been my most coherent attempt at bringing together my various interests: compositional vs improvisational decision making; precise technique vs contingency and unpredictability; sustained sound as tranquil waves and rapid torrents…
it also features stunning lighting and lasers by erin nortje aka R-T-FAX, and costume design by fergus fowler.
